Intelligent buildings, from the sensor to the city
What we do
A building is a deeply complex system, and we can describe its physical behaviour mathematically. BIST builds intelligent buildings out of that description — from building science, from informatics, and from the data a building throws off across its whole life. We work at every scale it happens on: the sensor, the equipment, the system, the building, the city, and everything passing between them.
Why it's urgent
The construction industry has almost no one whose job is to run a building intelligently, or to build the digital twin that would let it. That gap is the opportunity. We read AI not as a replacement for engineers but as agents working alongside them — which means somebody has to engineer those agents, and direct them, across the entire life of a building.
What we're building
We started in building environmental systems and are opening up building informatics as a field of its own. We imagine a construction industry with virtual environments, robots, AI agents, advanced sensing — and we're trying to build the intelligent buildings people have only seen in films. The people who leave here are the ones who will run it.
